Canon and Continuity¶
This page explains how the two campaigns fit together, and how confident the wiki is about each part of the combined story. Read this alongside Meta/Conventions.md (which defines how canon tags are formatted on individual pages) and CLAUDE.md (which states the ground rules).
The two campaigns¶
Chrono Conundrum is the completed campaign: a Chrono Trigger-inspired homebrew game that ran at least 51 sessions. The party — Laethan, Daphne, Trout Brightshield, Onyx Battleborne, Belgarian, Arthur, plus recurring companions Marle and Lucca — time-and-plane-hopped between eras of a single world (a fair called the Millennium Fair / Truce / Enhasa across different centuries), chasing down the god-like entity Lavos and the villain Magus. The campaign was never finished. Play stopped mid-Session 51, with the party's arrest in Enhasa (Chrono Conundrum Notes.md).
Gods and Dragons is the current, ongoing campaign. It centers on Demyra, Wolfgang, and Cassian Windsor — the triplet children of Laethan and Daphne Windsor — and picks up from a state of the world established by the intended ending of Chrono Conundrum.
The gap between them¶
Because Chrono Conundrum stopped before its planned ending was played, everything connecting the two campaigns is Planned Canon or Bridge Material, not Played Canon:
Chrono_Conundrum_Ending_Outline.docx.md("Final Draft") is the GM's outline for how the campaign would have ended: the party's escape from Enhasa, Demeter's imprisonment and liberation, Kaelion's coup and Magus's death, Daphne's confrontation with and sacrifice to Lavos, the year-long "Gap Year," Daphne's resurrection, Laethan's transformation and immortality, the Windsor wedding, and the birth of the triplets.- This outline was written but never played at the table. Treat every event in it as the GM's stated intent — a strong, detailed, "Final Draft" intent — but not as something that was resolved through actual play, dice rolls, or character choices in session.
Wolfgang Windsor Backstory.docxandOlder Trout Stories.mdare Bridge Material: documents written after the Ending Outline that assume its events happened and fill in what came next (the triplets' childhood, Wolfgang's abduction, Trout founding the Order of the Stars).
This matters because Gods and Dragons' entire premise — Daphne as a goddess, Laethan as a Windsor, Kaelion as the next campaign's villain, the triplets' existence — rests on the Ending Outline being "true" for continuity purposes, even though it was never played. The wiki treats it that way (as the operative premise of Gods and Dragons) while still labeling it Planned Canon so nobody mistakes it for something the original table actually experienced. If the GM or players decide to change or contradict any part of the outline going forward, that's a legitimate revision to make — just document it as such rather than silently editing history.
Rough canon-confidence ladder¶
From most to least certain:
- Played Canon —
Chrono Conundrum Notes.md, Sessions 0–51. Actually happened at the table. - Backstory Canon — character backstory documents (Laethan, Trout, Quinon, Wolfgang). Established outside of play but treated as settled fact about the characters' histories.
- Planned Canon — the Ending Outline. The GM's intended conclusion; never played.
- Bridge Material — documents that build on Planned Canon to describe the in-between period (the "Gap Year" and beyond, up to Gods and Dragons' start).
- Character Belief / Rumor / In-World Claim — things said or believed within the fiction that may or may not be objectively true even by the story's own rules (e.g., Farrow's rundown of what happened to the other Blood Hunter orders in
Older Trout Stories.mdis entirely his own claim, unverified elsewhere). - Implied / Uncertain — reasonable inference, not stated outright.
- Contradictory — sources disagree; see
Contradictions and Open Questions.md.
Starting state of Gods and Dragons¶
Per the Ending Outline and the Bridge Material, Gods and Dragons opens roughly here:
- Daphne Windsor is a goddess (Goddess of Light — see
Wiki/Characters/Daphne Windsor.md), married to Laethan Windsor (formerly Sableflame), living on the Windsor Estate on the Elongated Isle. - Their triplets — Demyra, Wolfgang, and Cassian — are adults. Wolfgang has completed his training under Grandmaster Trout Brightshield at Castle Orion and returned home after a multi-year absence.
- Kaelion Sableflame, Laethan's brother, is the setup's primary antagonist, having orchestrated Wolfgang's abduction and torture (via their father Aeren) and remaining at large after the failed coup against Queen Zeal.
- Trout Brightshield leads the Order of the Stars at Castle Orion; Onyx and Marle rule Porre; Belgarian has founded a druidic grove on the Sword Coast.
- Several loose ends from the original campaign are explicitly still open — see
Unresolved Threads.md.
