Castle Orion¶
Mountain fortress in the High Forest, outside the city of Moonveil, seat of the Order of the Stars.
Overview¶
Castle Orion was not built or designed by Lucca Dragonaire — a correction to Wolfgang Windsor Backstory.docx, confirmed by direct GM clarification and independently corroborated in detail by The_Last_Diamondback_or_Bound_by_Blood.md (see Contradictions and Open Questions). It was originally the seat of one of Duke Athtar of Moonveil's vassal lords. The Dread Gloom — the same ancient black dragon (in truth a dracolich) that destroyed Castle Shain generations earlier — seized it as a lair, slaughtering the lord, his guard, and his family, and let the surrounding land rot and fester around it for the better part of a year.
History¶
Reward and ruin¶
When Trout, Elysia, and Rodrick killed the Dread Gloom for good roughly ten years after the Chrono Conundrum campaign, Duke Athtar rewarded Trout with the castle itself, on top of a chest of gold. Trout let it sit in ruins for some time afterward — the fight had cost him his oldest friend, Rodrick, and the castle held no immediate appeal. Repairs only began later: first modestly, to make it fit for young Wolfgang's arrival, and then more substantially as the fledgling Order of the Stars began to grow around it.
Rebuilding¶
The full reconstruction took "a few years and much of his millions" — funded by Trout's reward for the Dread Gloom's death. Elysia personally added magical wards and defenses to the castle, along with a teleportation circle in the keep. She also had constellation-like marks etched onto Hephaestus's breastplate, "thought it would fit for your new order" — the likely origin of the Order of the Stars' name and iconography.
The Order of the Stars¶
Per Additional Materials/Blood_Hunter_Lore.md, the order that came to occupy the rebuilt castle began small — just Trout teaching Wolfgang to control his lycanthropy — before growing into a full Blood Hunter order welcoming survivors of the old, fallen orders and newcomers alike.
