Moonveil¶
An elven-ruled city, seat of Duke Athtar, near which Castle Orion sits. Setting of Additional Materials/The_Last_Diamondback_or_Bound_by_Blood.md.
Overview¶
A sprawling city beside a "mighty river," surrounded by farmland, with terraced wood buildings climbing a hill to a citadel. Ruled by elves "for many centuries." At the time of Trout Brightshield's visit (roughly ten years after the Chrono Conundrum campaign), Moonveil is in crisis: the Dread Gloom has seized a nearby vassal's castle and is ravaging the duchy, and the city is flooded with panicked refugees, doomsayers, food shortages, and rioting peasants demanding action from Duke Athtar.
Notable people¶
- Duke Athtar — the elven ruler of Moonveil: lithe, silver-haired, platinum-blue-eyed. Posts an escalating bounty on the Dread Gloom, eventually offering Trout ten million gold pieces (paid out, per the story, as a chest of five million) and the deed to the castle itself if he kills it. Shrewd but genuinely desperate for his people's sake; later celebrates Trout as the "Hero of Moonveil" with a banquet, and privately reveals he was "rooting for" Trout and Elysia's romance.
- Elysia Moreau — serves as Duke Athtar's court mage.
History¶
Moonveil is where Trout reunites with both Elysia (now grown into her role as court mage) and his old Castle Shain classmate Rodrick, and where the trio set out to finally kill the Dread Gloom. Trout returns here afterward to claim his reward, begins a relationship with Elysia, and — per the story's closing scene — uses much of his reward gold to rebuild the ruined castle nearby into Castle Orion.
