Order of the Chimera¶
A sister order to the Order of the Diamondback, seated at a stronghold called The Crucible — destroyed when one of their own experiments broke free.
Overview¶
Like the Diamondback, the Chimera were Mutants who used alchemical Mutagens, but pushed the practice to its extremes, experimenting with both alchemy and biology under the philosophy "the body is a weapon, improve it." Their dungeons doubled as half-prison, half-laboratory: monsters were sometimes sedated rather than killed and brought back for experimentation, and the order sometimes kidnapped people — or used novices they already expected wouldn't survive the Hunter's Bane — as test subjects. Some Chimera members augmented and experimented on themselves so extensively that their original race became unrecognizable. Their sigil was, fittingly, a chimera.
History¶
The Chimera kept to the old, Abyss-aligned ways during the Schism, rather than joining the Order of the Dragon's reforms. Generations later, one of their own experiments went wrong — something broke free and wreaked havoc, destroying the stronghold outright.
This directly contradicts Farrow's secondhand account in Older Trout Stories.md, which claims the Chimera "got hit by an earthquake then a deep freeze." See Contradictions and Open Questions — Blood_Hunter_Lore.md's account (an experiment breaking free) is treated as authoritative.
