Order of the Unicorn¶
The Righteous Order, seated at Castle Argent — the moral antithesis of the Order of the Abyss. Eventually abandoned Hemocraft entirely and became an order of paladins.
Overview¶
The Unicorn believed "power exists to protect those who cannot wield it." All Ghostslayers, they acted almost like paladins who happened to use blood magic — honorable, disciplined, and devoted to protecting civilians above all else; killing evil mattered less to them than safeguarding the good, and they treated killing as a last resort whenever possible. Their stronghold was decorated with paintings of gallant heroes and deeds; they kept formal knights' vows, ceremonial armor, and strict codes of conduct. The grandmaster's title passed to whichever claimant performed the greatest deed or feat.
History¶
Per the Schism, the Unicorn kept to the old, Abyss-aligned ways rather than joining the Order of the Dragon's new-school reforms. Their fate came anyway, if a gentler one than most: they drifted so far from their blood-magic roots, and grew so similar to paladins in practice, that they eventually stopped calling themselves Blood Hunters altogether and became the order of paladins "they were always pretending to be" — forgetting the Hunter's Bane ritual entirely.
Farrow's account in Older Trout Stories.md (an unverified In-World Claim) describes essentially this same transformation but names the order the "Golden Star" rather than the Unicorn. See Contradictions and Open Questions for this naming discrepancy — this wiki treats Blood_Hunter_Lore.md's "Unicorn" as the authoritative name, with "Golden Star" as either a colloquial nickname or Farrow's own error.
