Kellemar (Masamune)

A sentient halberd, Onyx's signature weapon, forged originally by the swordsmith Melcher for Queen Zeal and later inherited (in fragments) by Onyx's missing brother Obsidian.

Overview

The weapon houses two wind-spirit voices, Masa and Mune, who speak to the party from within it once reforged. It goes by two names — Kellemar and Masamune — used somewhat interchangeably in the session notes.

History

The halberd is found broken across two major fights: fragments recovered from a death dragon's body and the corpse of Onyx's brother Obsidian (Session 33–34), whose own death is tied to the weapon. Melcher — who reveals he built the original weapon for Queen Zeal — repairs it using the King's Stone / Chief's Stone, a fragment believed to be a piece of Lavos itself, in a process that visibly drains Daphne's life force the closer she stands to it (Session 38). Once reforged, the weapon speaks for the first time, revealing Masa and Mune, and immediately expresses a desire to stab Trout — a running bit rather than a real threat.

By the Ending Outline, Masa and Mune have "retired," and Onyx keeps the weapon as a pen on his desk in Porre — much to the spirits' constant, ignored complaints.
