Order of the Stars¶
A new Blood Hunter order founded by Trout Brightshield at Castle Orion, after he hunts down and kills The Dread Gloom — closing the wound left by Quinon's death and the fall of Castle Shain.
Overview¶
Trained by Grandmaster Trout Brightshield, the order accepts a range of students including Lycans (Trout teaches control rather than rejection of the curse) and non-humans of all backgrounds. Unlike the Diamondback's brutal single-Grandmaster structure, Trout teaches "without lying" and insists every student retains a real choice: "If you walk away, you walk away human."
Notable members¶
- Trout Brightshield — first Grandmaster/founder
- Wolfgang Windsor — student, "the Red Wolf"; trained roughly four years; the order's first-ever student
- Hephaestus — a warforged; became a Ghostslayer and Wolfgang's classmate. His origin is disputed between sources — see History below and Contradictions and Open Questions.
- Vosh — half-orc; found the castle "seeking glory, purpose and a way to protect the small," becoming the order's third member. Survivor of Daemon Karass's raid. Later appointed by Trout as his successor as Grandmaster — and, per
Additional Materials/Blood_Hunter_Lore.md, has since died, prompting Trout to replace single-Grandmaster succession with a council of five (see Unresolved Threads — neither Vosh's tenure nor his death is otherwise detailed in the sources). - Sera (deceased) — tiefling performer, Wolfgang's partner, killed defending students
- Kali (deceased) — tabaxi Lycan and survivor of the fallen Order of the Tiger; Wolfgang's rival/partner, killed by a werewolf hunter
- Lyrei — survivor of the fallen Order of the Succubus
- Malachi — survivor of the fallen Order of the Dragon
- Daemon Karass — elven blood mage student who betrayed the order, orchestrating a raid that killed six students and Sera
- Vex, Titus, Hawk, Anders, Gregory, Rasha (deceased) — students killed in Daemon's raid
- Ember, Solas, Samson, Gamble — named among Trout's inner circle in

History¶
Founded some years after Trout, Elysia, and Rodrick killed The Dread Gloom for good near Moonveil. Per direct GM clarification (correcting Wolfgang Windsor Backstory.docx's claim that Lucca Dragonaire engineered the castle), Castle Orion was a ruined vassal's castle given to Trout as his reward for the kill; he rebuilt it over several years using the reward gold, with Elysia adding magical wards, defenses, and a teleportation circle. The order itself began small and organically, exactly as Additional Materials/Blood_Hunter_Lore.md describes: first just Trout teaching Wolfgang to control his lycanthropy, then Hephaestus (already present at the castle, having lost his memory in the fight against the Dread Gloom — see The Dread Gloom) becoming a Ghostslayer alongside him, then Vosh finding the castle and joining. From there it grew, drawing survivors of the fallen orders (Kali, Lyrei, Malachi) and newcomers of every background, unified by no single philosophy — "everyone and everything was welcomed."
The order suffered a major loss when Daemon Karass, motivated by jealousy of Wolfgang's natural aptitude, orchestrated a raid on the castle that killed six students including Sera, while Wolfgang was away on a hunt with Kali. Daemon's ultimate fate is not established in the sources reviewed (see Unresolved Threads).
Trout served as the order's first Grandmaster, later appointing Vosh as his successor; after Vosh's death (undetailed), Trout replaced single-Grandmaster succession with a council of five Grandmasters — a structural echo of the reform the Order of the Dragon originally proposed during the Schism, though arrived at independently.
Older Trout Stories.md shows the order some time later, with Trout being approached by an outside Blood Hunter, Farrow, about investigating the ruins of Castle Umbra — a thread left unresolved in the source material.
