Demeter¶
A goddess allied with Daphne Windsor throughout the Chrono Conundrum campaign — imprisoned by Lavos's backward reach through history, later liberated during the Ending Outline's climactic battle.
Overview¶
Demeter grants Daphne divine strength at key moments (e.g., the Lesser Restoration that saves the poisoned king in Session 7–8) and is a recurring presence in Daphne's Channel Divinity. Onyx, notably, dismisses her with the nickname "Dirt Eater" — reflecting his general skepticism of the party's divine entanglements.
History¶
The Chrono Conundrum campaign¶
Demeter appears as a guiding presence behind Daphne's clerical power throughout the played sessions, though her captivity by Lavos isn't revealed until the Ending Outline.
The Ending Outline (Planned Canon)¶
Per the outline, Demeter has been trapped in Queen Zeal's time by "Lavos's backward reach through history," bound by a seal maintained by Zeal's mages, imprisoned in the cell next to Daphne's during the party's arrest in Enhasa. She reveals the truth of Daphne's parentage (Jane Windsor's bargain with Lavos, Olivia's flight into becoming Magus) and is partially freed by Trout cracking her cell's seal, then fully liberated mid-battle during the confrontation with Kaelion and Magus. Weakened but present as "a witness more than a combatant" during the fight, she spends the following "Gap Year" quietly and invisibly restoring her full power in preparation for Daphne's resurrection, which she helps enable at the volcano ritual (alongside Ravina Moreau's death-and-life framework and the party's own grief and refusal to let the ending stand).
She grants Trout a divinely powered dragon-slaying bolt during the Gap Year, in gratitude for his help freeing her, and is present at the Windsor wedding.
