Corus Sableflame¶
Son of Kaelion Sableflame, and therefore Cassian's cousin. A tiefling spellsword a few years older than Cassian, involved in transporting the abducted Wolfgang. Killed by Cassian during a failed rescue attempt.
Overview¶
Corus is only ever seen once in the source material, guarding a wagon transporting the caged, unconscious Wolfgang during Cassian's search for his missing brother. He wields both a rapier and spells, including a magical barrier.
History¶
Cassian, having tracked Wolfgang to a warehouse via a months-long trail of bribes and threats, charged in directly rather than infiltrating quietly. A dropped lantern set the building ablaze as guards fell to his sword; Corus stood between Cassian and the wagon carrying Wolfgang. Cassian recognized him instantly by resemblance — "that same cocksure smirk" — as a Sableflame. The two fought fiercely as the warehouse burned and collapsed around them: Corus's rapier and magical barrier held for a time, but Cassian eventually shattered the barrier, took his arm off at the elbow with his greatsword's pommel and guard, and finished him with a divinely-charged blow "from shoulder to hip." By the time Cassian reached the door, the wagon — and Wolfgang — were gone, the trail burned away with the warehouse.
Unresolved Threads¶
- Whether Kaelion Sableflame is aware that Cassian specifically killed his son, and what role (if any) this plays in his motivations as Gods and Dragons' antagonist.
