Rhea

An aasimar death cleric of Lavos, and Cassian's love interest — now pregnant with his child, at the center of the single largest unresolved thread in his backstory.

Overview

Rhea has long black hair, fair skin, violet eyes, and darkvision unusual for her apparent heritage. She fought on the Lavos-cultist side during the siege of a mountain stronghold that Cassian's Temple of Daphne forces besieged.

History

An earthquake during the siege's chaos trapped Cassian and Rhea together in a small pocket beneath collapsed rubble — enemies on opposite sides of the same war, each initially wary the other might finish what the battle started. Cassian healed her broken leg despite recognizing her cult armor; she thanked him with water from her helmet, both surprised by the other's decency. Trapped for what may have been hours or days, with no rescue coming and no way to signal for help, the two talked through boredom, dice games, philosophy, and shared trauma, eventually finding comfort in each other physically before Cassian used her recovered morningstar, charged with divine power, to break them free.

They parted, expecting never to meet again. Rhea reached out again after Cassian's return home via a private Sending, asking to meet privately — and told him she's pregnant. Cassian proposed marriage; she did not accept, for reasons the source material frames as complicated rather than explained (their respective duties, how little time they'd actually spent together, the gulf between his oath to Daphne and her worship of Lavos). The backstory ends without resolution: Cassian has told no one in his family about Rhea or the pregnancy.

Relationships

  • Cassian Windsor — father of her unborn child; proposed marriage, was turned down.

Unresolved Threads

  • Whether Rhea and Cassian reconcile, co-parent, or go entirely separate ways.
  • Whether Cassian ever tells his family (Laethan, Daphne, Demyra, Wolfgang) about Rhea or the child.
  • The tension between Rhea's worship of Lavos — the god Daphne sacrificed herself to destroy — and any future relationship with House Windsor.
